Dee: 'Tor ka sounds like feet right! What's feet in Hokkien ah?'
Me: 'Er........' (thinks)
....
Me: 'KA MENG!'
Immediate uproarious laughter ensues and lasts for 5 min.
Dee: 'What ka meng?!'
Me: 'Eh. TA meng is hair. so KA meng is leg hair correct right!'
Dee: 'HAHAHHAHAHAHA' (for 5 min)
Me: 'Why you laugh until like that?!?!?!'
Me: 'Eh... The don't worry be happy last time say cannot name a girl Carmen cos it sounds like ka meng right? Ka meng is leg hair what? Oh, so KA is feet!'
Dee: 'HAHHAHHAHAHA...' (another 5 min goes by)
She FINALLY cools down.
Dee: 'Your nose go down one leh'
Me: 'Then what, your nose go up meh?'
Dee: 'No la, like I mean, instead of like this (pointing horizontally) it's like this! (pointing slanting downwards)
Me: 'Turn to the side!'
Me: 'See, you also what!'
(Dee looks at mirror)
Dee: 'Oh yeah hor.'
Me: -_-"
...
Dee: 'What's nose ah?'
And that marks our laughter-infused conversation on Hokkien while studying at home. As anyone can tell, our command of the dialect is horrendous. So yes, both of us remained stumped until we consulted Ma at dinnertime.
Dee: 'Mummy, what's nose in Hokkien?'
Ma: 'Pi kang.'
Dee + Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
:)
On another note, I'm just so relieved that the first presentation of the term is over. Of course, there's still Macro project presentation; Finance report; another FA project presentation and CAT project presentation, but I thank God things went smoothly yesterday! Thank God that our group did quite well, that the class responded well and that we could answer the questions posed to us! :) Midterms coming soon... but even in the midst of all the busyness we must remember not to neglect our time with God eh? :)
Here's a song by Don Moen, some encouragement for those who are feeling discouraged, burdened or weak. :)
He will come and save you
Say to those who are fearful hearted, "Do not be afraid,"
The Lord your God is strong with His mighty arms
When you call on His name
He will come and save
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
Say to the weary one, "Your God will surely come,"
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
Lift up your eyes to Him, you will arise again
He will come and save you
Say to those who are broken hearted, "Do not lose your faith,"
The Lord you God is strong with His loving arms
When you call on His name
He will come and save
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
Say to the weary one, "Your God will surely come,"
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
Lift up your eyes to Him, you will arise again
He will come and save you
He is our refuge is our day of trouble
He is our shelter in the time of storm
He is our tower in the day of sorrow
Our fortress in the time of war
The time of war
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
Say to the weary one, "Your God will surely come,"
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
He will come and save you
Lift up your eyes to Him, you will arise again
He will come and save you
